PAIRING

Crisp, Clean, Drinkable.

Beer: Yuengling

Why: This amber lager has a balanced, smooth flavor with mild malt sweetness and a hint of bitterness from the hops. This makes it a great complement to the savory richness of a cheesesteak. The beer's crispness helps cut through the richness of the meat and cheese, refreshing your palate between bites. The light to medium body of the lager also won't overpower the flavors of the sandwich, allowing the combination to feel well-balanced and satisfying.

Plus, a Pennsylvania beer goes with a Philly Cheesesteak! Each side of this pairing has a similar lack of pretentiousness.

What: A lager is a type of beer known for its clean, crisp flavor and refreshing qualities. It is brewed using bottom-fermenting yeast, which ferments at cooler temperatures compared to ales. This process often results in a smoother, less fruity taste and a more subdued yeast character. Lagers typically have a pale golden to amber color.

Yuengling is America's oldest brewery, founded in 1829 by David Yuengling in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The brewery was initially called the Eagle Brewery, but after David’s death, his son Frederick Yuengling renamed it to "Yuengling & Son" in 1873. The brewery has remained in the Yuengling family for nearly 200 years, even through Prohibition. During that time, they adapted by producing “near beer” (a low-alcohol beer) and even ice cream to survive the dry years. After Prohibition ended in 1933, Yuengling resumed brewing beer.

Buying: Widely distributed. Buy it anywhere you buy beer.
